I kept on hearing the words

my dad then introduced and shared with me details of the song.

He told me that this song was popular in the late '70s.

The meaning of the lyrics is that a guy when he knows

that his girl no longer loves him, and he can't take it...

he simply could not forget what his girl said to him b4 she left.
